Dock

Did you know that the applications at the bottom and sometimes on the side of your computer screen are just short cuts?  Where they are located is called the Dock.  These are not the full applications just the short cuts and if they are deleted (poofed) off of the dock they are not lost.  Also the applications in your dock can be removed and others can be added as the dock usually starts off with a default group of applications.

So for example if you do not use iChat or iWeb or play Chess you can simply drag these up onto your desktop (your screen background) and they will poof away.  If you want to add an application from the Applications folder (check the DVD player post on how to get to the Applications) then have the Applications window open and simply drag the ICON, let’s say Dictionary, from the Applications Folder in BETWEEN 2 applications in the dock.  The Dictionary application should then be set in the dock until it is removed (poofed) away.
You can also rearrange the applications in your dock this way by moving the Application Icons in your dock in between 2 other applications.  So for example if you want Word, Excel and PowerPoint to all be by each other just click and drag them from your dock and move them in between the applications where you want them to be on your dock.
Play around with different Dock Preferences and Settings by click on the Black Apple in the upper left corner of your computer and clicking on Dock.
